Display a Joomla Component on your FrontpagePosted by: Cheryl Allin on Aug 17, 2007 Tagged in: howto , components

In an earlier tutorial, I explained how your frontpage content item will disappear if you don't have the default 'Home' link at the top of your Main Menu. But, what if you don't want your 'Welcome to the website' content item on the Frontpage, but you would rather have Sobi or CMS Realty to display instead? Believe it or not, I didn't at first realize how to do this (but should have).
If you're like me - it may not be intuitive that if you put a Component link at the top (ordered at number one) of the main menu - that is what will display on the home page. What I wanted for a directory site I own - Sobi on the homepage - wasn't hard at all once I realized the correlation between the main menu priority link structure. I simply moved my link for Sobi with the blue 'up' arrows until it was in the number one spot, and it then appeared on the homepage.
Since I still wanted a bit of an 'intro' paragraph - I made sure I had a module position in the template just above the main content area and then published a short intro paragraph in that position.
Now, since I didn't want that Sobi link at the top of the menu that visitors would use - I created a second menu and copied all of the main menu items (minus the sobi link) over to this new menu and published the new menu in the place of the main menu so I could have a 'Home' link display at the top of that new menu.
Voila - I now have Sobi displaying on the homepage and a logical user menu. Good luck!
